Keep reading to learn more about why guys should be taking CBD, too!
What is CBD?
CBD (short for cannabidiol) is one of the over 80 active cannabinoid chemicals found in the marijuana plant. Unlike the main psychoactive cannabinoid in marijuana, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) CBD doesn’t give you the feeling of being intoxicated. In fact, it may have the opposite effect!
Until 2018, cannabis (along with heroin and ecstasy) was considered a Schedule I drug- making it illegal to produce, sell, or use. But in December of 1028, the Farm Bill was signed into law, making CBD legal in all 50 states- as long as it contained less than 3% THC.
Since then, CBD products have graced the shelves of major drugstores, wellness centers and popular restaurants alike.
Because cannabis was banned for such a long time, there is still a lot of research that can (and should) be done to learn more about the effects of this complex plant. However, what we do know about CBD is extremely promising, and very exciting.
Benefits of CBD for Men
Relieve Anxiety with CBD
CBD works in tandem with your body’s natural endocannabinoid system, a complex network of receptors in the body that help regulate the nervous system, immune system and other functions. When activated by the body’s endocannabinoids, CBD can have a calming effect on the brain, reducing stress and anxiety. A 2015 review found that oral doses of cannabidiol are effective in reducing anxiety in human subjects.
Improve Stamina with CBD
Struggling with midday drowsiness or the “3’o-clocks” is totally common. By stimulating your energy levels during the day, taking CBD can help improve your quality of sleep and overall health.
Use CBD for Better Sex
One of the most significant benefits of CBD oil for men is the ability to improve your sex life. According to BioMed Research International, health practitioners have been using cannabinoids for years to improve Erectile dysfunction (ED) and sexual performance.
Even though we’re still learning the exact ins-and-outs of how CBD can help with your sex life, one theory is that CBD could help relax your blood vessels and promote blood flow, which will promote better and longer-lasting sex for you and your partner.
CBD for Post-Workout Soreness
No pain, no gain…right? Wrong. You don’t need to accept pain as part of your daily life if you experience sports-related injuries or post-workout soreness– and you don’t need to turn to over-the-counter pain medicine either.
While there is concern over prescription pain drug overdoses, researchers are focusing on looking for safer alternatives for pain management. CBD looks incredibly promising for treating pain and inflammation from workouts and contact sports.
Speaking of sports:
Professional Athletes Who Take CBD
There are a number of men in professional sports who are honest and up-front about how CBD has changed their lives.
In 2018, the World Anti-Doping Agency removed CBD from its list of banned substances, which paved the way for pro athletes to take a more natural approach to pain relief and their overall health.
Here are some names you might know:
- Even though he recently retired, former Denver Broncos quarterback Jake Plaummer might be reconsidering a career comeback. And Jake knows all-too-well the pain that is associated with playing football. He recently told Mile High Sports, “My body feels great after playing for 10 years. I owe a lot of that to CBD, and what it’s done for me.”
- “I enjoyed a 10-year playing career. I have taken more pain pills in that time than most people have in their lifetime. I wish I had known about the benefits of CBD much earlier,” retired NFL linebacker, David Ahrens, tells Men’s Health.
- “I think in due time, the NFL is going to realize that CBD is not a performance-enhancing drug. If anything, it helps with anxiety, helps with concentration, it helps with pain,” says Ebenezer Ekuban, former defensive end for the Dallas Cowboys.
- Chris Camozzi, MMA Fighter uses CBD oil to help him to speed up his recovery time between training sessions. He began taking CBD oil following a severe knee injury. Since then, CBD has become a routine component of his training, and claims that CBD oil has drastically improved his overall health and wellness.
How Much CBD Should a Guy Take?
While maintaining a healthy lifestyle looks very much the same for men and women alike- there are certainly some issues that affect men a little differently than women. Whether you’re taking CBD to improve your sex life, fight off anxiety, or improve your quality of sleep- CBD may be just the right addition to your health and wellness routine.
